Low Pressure Direct Injection Fuel System
![]() |
Low Pressure Direct Injection is a method of achieving improved combustion, fuel economy and reduced emissions. This is achieved by spraying highly atomized fuel directly into the cylinder at significantly lower pressures than competing systems. Designed for gasoline vehicles, Visteon has designed both hardware (in-tank pump, injector and fuel rail) and controls for a homogeneous charge stoichiometric gasoline direct injection fuel system.
Visteon's Low Pressure Direct Injection Fuel System provides lower systems costs compared to high pressure homogeneous systems delivering measurable improvements in emissions, performance and fuel economy.
Benefits
- Delivers nearly instant fuel pressurization and atomization to enable a cold start through the motor-driven in-tank gear pump and soft spray fuel injectors.
- Increases torque up to five percent for improved towing and acceleration compared to conventional PFI systems.
- Provides fine fuel atomization at lower pressures (2 MPa) compared to high pressure direct injection systems using Visteon's proprietary turbulence nozzle with spray-tailoring capability.
- Incorporate Visteon's proprietary pulse damping technology to minimize fuel rail pressure pulsations.
