Q-e Concept Car
At Auto China 2010 in Beijing, Yanfeng Visteon Automotive Trim Systems (YFV), a joint venture between Visteon Corporation and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation's automotive components group, Huayu Automotive Systems, showcased its unique interior and exterior styling capability on its concept electric car, the Q-e. Designed for the young urbanite electric vehicle (EV) user, the Q-e's styling offers a spacious and flexible personal space and advanced cockpit electronics interface (ACE-I) using environmentally friendly applications. As an eco-friendly city commuter, its front and roof glass are embedded with 18 solar panels to generate additional "green" energy for the vehicle.
The Q-e also features a new concept in advanced cockpit electronics interface system, the ACE-I, which integrates a wide range of vehicle controls in a user-friendly, single screen display. The system allows for personalized driver interaction with vehicle controls including navigation, video, audio, driver information, climate controls, MP3 players, Apple's iPod" devices and e-book readers, and games, etc. Drivers choose to interact by voice, buttons or touch-sensitive commands.
The center-stack control panel can transform itself into two reconfigurable game control pads. Q-e incorporates two 19-inch flip-up screens for drivers and passengers to enjoy games, movies and the Internet when the car is parked, creating a home-theater feeling. The flip-up screens are stored inside the instrument panel when not in use.
Zero Leak Fitting
Visteon Corporation has developed an innovative "zero leak" fitting that is designed to eliminate refrigerant leakage in vehicle air conditioning systems. The patented metal seal block fitting and seal structure eliminates a significant source of refrigerant leakage, reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions as well as warranty costs associated with recharging vehicle air conditioning systems. The metal seal fitting surpasses all requirements for today's R134A refrigerant and proposed future refrigerants including R1234yf, as well as the very severe temperature, pressure and leakage requirements of R744 (CO2) systems.
Electric Compressor
Hybrid electric and electric vehicles are widely viewed as an answer to environmentally-responsible transportation. By 2020, approximately 20 percent of vehicle sales could be HEV/EV. Visteon debuted its new, lightweight electric compressor on the recently launched BMW 7-Series Hybrid. The electric compressor's compact design fits the traditional belt-driven compressor package space, minimizing vehicle complexity in platforms offer both combustion engine and hybrid-electric model variants. Electric compressors also enhance passenger comfort. The cabin can be pre-conditioned before passengers enter, and can be cooled faster because of the independent operation from the combustion engine rpm. Also, cabin comfort can be maintained when the engine is idling or off.

Environmental Successes in 2010:
SPE Award
Visteon was awarded the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Division prize for most innovative use of plastics in a vehicle body interior for a lightweight, self-reinforced air bag door. The award was presented Nov. 9 at the 40th annual SPE Automotive Innovation Awards Gala in Livonia, Mich., sponsored by the Automotive Division of SPE. The air bag door, incorporating Visteon's unique lightweight reinforcement technology (VLR), is the industry's first fully recyclable, overmolded polypropylene passenger air bag door, and offers weight savings of up to 40 percent compared with conventional systems. The technology was developed at Visteon's interiors technical center in Harnes, France, which is heading interior product development and process innovation for all European customers. The VLR air bag door is currently in production on the Citroën in C5.
Best Energy Efficient Unit Award
Visteon's Automotive Systems India (VASI) Chennai plant received the "Best Energy Efficient Unit" from the Confederation of Indian Industries. The award recognizes organizations focused on excellence in energy management. VASI was on of only 38 companies in the country selected for the award.
Gold Award
Visteon Engineering Services (VES) in the UK was awarded the "Gold Award" by the Sustainable Travel Department of Essex County Council, recognizing VES as one of the leading businesses in Essex for providing excellent infrastructure and support that enables employees to travel to work in an environmentally friendly way. The "gold award," the highest accolade and one of only two for 2010 was awarded to employees from VES' Green Travel Group, the Bike User Group and Facilities Team for their efforts in encouraging their colleagues to consider alternatives to driving to work. Initiatives launched by the employee groups include a tax-efficient program to assist employees in purchasing a bike for travel to work, route planning for car sharers, "pool bikes" and identifying walking routes. |
